Indian Army Day 2024: Indian Army will celebrate its 76th Foundation Day today on 15 January. Indian Army Day is celebrated every year on 15 January in the country. On this day in 1949, Field Marshal KM Cariappa took command of the Indian Army from General Francis Butcher. Francis Butcher was the last British Commander in Chief of India. For the first time an Indian was handed over the reins of the Indian Army. Cariappa was the first Commander-in-Chief of independent India. This day is celebrated every year to commemorate Cariappa assuming the charge as the top commander of the Indian Army.
Cariappa was the first officer to be given the five-star rank of Field Marshal. The second was Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw. On Army Day, the entire country remembers the indomitable courage of the Army, its bravery, bravery and its sacrifices.

– Born in 1899 in Coorg, Karnataka, Field Marshal Cariappa started working in the British Indian Army at the age of just 20.
– Cariappa led the army on the western border in the India-Pakistan war of 1947.
– At the time of India-Pakistan independence, he was given the responsibility of dividing the armies of both the countries. Cariappa was also known as ‘Keeper’.
– Cariappa retired from the army in the year 1953.
Field Marshal is the highest post in the Indian Army. This post is given as a matter of respect. So far in Indian history, this rank has been given to only two officers. The first Field Marshal of the country is Sam Manekshaw. He was awarded the post of Field Marshal by the President in January 1973. M Cariappa was the second Field Marshal of the country. He was made a Field Marshal in 1986.
This time Army Day celebration will be held in Lucknow
This will be the second time that the Army Day event is being organized outside Delhi. During this time, Shaurya Sandhya will be organized after the parade at Surya Sports Complex. In which Defense Minister Rajnath Singh will attend as the chief guest. The event will feature various forms of martial arts including fly pasts by Sukhoi and Kiran aircraft as well as several military displays.
