If your aim is to become an IAS or IPS officer, then you have to appear for UPSC Civil Services Examination (CSE). In which there are three stages. Prelims, Mains and Interview.
Today we will talk about the last stage of UPSC CSE exam, which is also called interview i.e. personality test. Recently UPSC has released the result of main examination. The candidates who are successful in the examination will be called for interview. Let us tell you, many types of misconceptions are spread regarding UPSC interview. Today we will discuss about the same.
First misconception: To become an IAS, IPS or IFS, only UPSC interview marks are considered.
– that’s a lie. It is not like that at all. The final rank is prepared by adding the marks obtained by the candidate in UPSC Main Examination (Written Test) and Interview (Personality Test). Actually, the total exam of UPSC is of 2025 marks. Out of which 1750 marks (86.4% weightage) are for written examination, while only 275 marks (13.6% weightage) out of 2025 are for personality test.
Second misconception: Only the knowledge test of the candidates is done during UPSC interview.
The purpose of UPSC interview is not to test the knowledge of a candidate. The Commission has already tested the knowledge through UPSC question papers (Preliminary and Main Examination). In such a situation, during the board panel interview, we see what kind of person you are and what is your personality? During the interview, attention is paid to your communication skills, sense of humor, analytical thinking and leadership quality etc.
Third misconception: You must answer all questions, no matter what.
– UPSC Board Panel knows very well that it is humanly impossible to know everything about everything. It’s absolutely okay if you don’t know the answers to some questions. Your marks will not be reduced due to that one reason. When such a situation arises when you do not know the answer to a question, what matters more is how you handle that situation. At the same time, do not be oversmart and do not try to cheat the board, because UPSC gives importance to honesty.
Fourth misconception: To score good marks in UPSC interview, one should answer only in English.
– UPSC Board is not looking for an English teacher but a qualified candidate for the job of a civil servant. You must answer correctly. Even if it is not given in English language.
