NCTE new education policy: Colleges do not have resources for new B.Ed course

B.Ed Course: NCTE is now going to start four level B.Ed (ITEP) under the new education policy. It will start from the academic session 2025-29. But other B.Ed colleges of Bihar including Muzaffarpur do not have the resources to run this course. Bihar’s colleges are lagging behind in the standards prepared by NCTE. Dr. Moushumi Choudhary, Head of the B.Ed Department of MDDM College, said that NCTE has released the list of recognition for running four-tier B.Ed courses, in which colleges should have A+ ranking in NAAC, NIRF ranking and Center for Excellence in the college. NCTE has also released the list of standards.

Separate studies for different classes Dr. Moushumi Chaudhary said that there will be separate studies for different classes in the four-tier B.Ed. Till now there was one course for all the classes in B.Ed. In the four-tier B.Ed, there will be courses in four levels: Foundation, Primary, Middle and Higher. With this the two-year B.Ed course will be closed. In place of the current four-year B.Ed. with two-year B.Ed., a four-tier B.Ed. The four level B.Ed will also be of four years only.

Currently, the four-level B.Ed course is being run under a pilot project in many central universities and other central educational institutions. In April this year, NCTE had invited applications to run this course, but due to lack of resources, no college in Bihar applied to start this course. NCTE had issued a notification on April 27 inviting applications for the course from all the colleges.

There may be flexibility in standards in the new session
NCTE can bring flexibility regarding four-tier B.Ed in the new session. Dr Moushumi said that many states including Bihar do not have A+ ranking colleges in NAAC. Only LS College of BRABU has got A grade, apart from that all the colleges have only B grade. Therefore, it is expected that from next year, colleges with B grade in NAAC will also be given the opportunity to run the course. Dr Chaudhary said that this course will increase the quality and professionalism in B.Ed teaching.
