NEET UG (Undergraduate) Exam-2024 is to be held on 5th May. By now most of the students would have completed their subject related preparation, but in such a situation the pressure of not making any mistakes in the performance increases. For this, there is a need to bring some changes in your thinking and include some exercises in your daily routine. Our expert Rakesh Jain is telling what should be the strategy in this phase of preparation for NEET exam.
It is important to control stress immediately
The examination conducted for admission to MBBS course – National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) is considered to be one of the toughest examinations in the world. More than 22 lakh students participate in it every year. These students leave no stone unturned in subject preparation, but mostly do not pay attention to building mental strength. Anxiety increases especially in the final stages. That is why in this period, along with preparation for the subjects, it is equally important to pay attention to mental strength. Because often due to lack of this, students are not able to perform as per expectations in the examination hall despite good preparation and knowledge.
Focus on your performance
Before we start talking about preparation, you need to understand that NEET UG (Undergraduate) is not just a test of your ‘preparation’ but it is a test of your ‘performance’ during the 200 minutes. Various researches show that most of the mistakes start 75-90 minutes after the exam starts. This means that students start getting confused in solving the questions despite knowing the correct answer. But the solution to this problem lies in your strong thinking. Here we will tell you how you can improve your performance while remaining free from exam stress. Actually NEET UG is all about the balance between your exam strategy and mental engagements. That is why it is important to have a fixed study schedule in preparation for this exam.
What is the timing of mock test?
It is important to practice daily for the exam and also include practicing the situations during the exam hall. Because it will help you to perform confidently in real situations. To train your brain, practice mock tests daily in the stipulated time frame between 2 pm to 5.20 pm. This will activate your brain and you will get used to the exam time and environment. As a result, you will feel more comfortable and confident in the exam room.
Special Tips Consistency is the key to achieving your goals. Practice your mock tests by keeping your alarm clock. Keep practicing this till the day just before the exam.
It is important to practice mobile phone detox
It is also very important for a student preparing for NEET UG to practice staying away from mobile phone daily. This means keeping your phone away from 1 pm to 6 pm every day, so that you can completely focus on your mock tests. In fact, in today’s era, mobile phones remain with us 24×7. It connects us with others, but hence also becomes a hindrance in concentration. This creates great distraction and mental fatigue, which can affect your performance in the exam. The fear of losing it during the examination also becomes an additional worry. So start practicing from now on keeping it away from you for a long time. You will not be allowed to take your phone in the examination hall.
Special Advice: When you reach the examination hall, stay away from anything that may be a source of pressure.
The time of waking up in the morning is also important
In preparation for this exam, the routine of getting up early in the morning to study and then sleeping early does not work. Nor will the routine of studying all night and then sleeping be good. Because the timing of this exam is always 2 pm to 5.20 pm. That means you have to report at the exam center before 1.30 pm. Which means that if you wake up at 7 o’clock, you will feel tired by noon, whereas if you wake up at 8 o’clock or later, your brain will be doing time management afresh and probably every task will be stressful. On the day before the exam, go to sleep before midnight and wake up between 7 to 8 in the morning. So that the morning breakfast is well digested by the time you leave for the exam and you are not feeling lethargic but energetic.
Special advice: On this day, many students come to take exams without eating food. But in such a situation the amount of glucose in the body starts decreasing. Due to this, the brain consumes energy rapidly and the stress and pressure of exams start having a greater impact. Therefore, start your day by having a nutritious breakfast at the right time.
Don’t ignore good sleep.
It is a common myth that studying late at night helps in remembering. The truth is that compromising your sleep schedule and lack of quality sleep can interfere with brain function. You may feel confused and unable to concentrate during the day. Therefore, make sure to get adequate sleep of 7 to 8 hours at night.
Special Advice: Taking a nap is the right strategy for an exam like NEET. It is important to take 7-8 hours of sleep at a time.
Practice Deep Breathing Exercises
It is normal for the breathing to become slow and short due to extreme nervousness after reaching the examination centre. To avoid such situations, pay attention to your breathing patterns regularly. It would be best if you start practicing deep breathing relaxation a few days in advance, so that you can get a grip on overcoming stress through it in time. Take deep breaths in and out after every 20 minutes during the exam, this exercise will maintain the necessary oxygen levels in your body, so that you remain alert in the exam.
Pro Tip Do it regularly on an empty stomach and start practicing whenever you feel stressed.
