Application deadlines for a $68.6 million rent relief program that aims to mitigate the financial effects of the COVID-19 outbreak and tenants who are overdue on their rent are this Friday in Los Angeles County.

On December 12, the county’s Department of Consumer and Business Affairs began offering rent relief. It will provide qualifying landlords with grants of up to $30,000 per unit for costs incurred between April 1, 2022, and the present.

Originally projected to provide roughly $46 million, the DCBA declared it had secured an extra $22 million in grant funds for the endeavor.

Small, mom-and-pop landlords with up to four rental units are the target audience for this initiative, according to organizers. Reducing tenant evictions, preserving small-scale rental firms’ sustainability, and guaranteeing the supply of inexpensive housing are the objectives.

Applications are now subject to a ranked screening procedure, according to DCBA. The properties that are in areas of greatest need, as determined by the L.A. County Equity Explorer Tool, those serving the most vulnerable tenants, and those exhibiting the most “substantial” financial difficulties will acquire priority.
